County Commission Votes To Give Away $2.5 Million in Cash Incentives To NBEDZ Approved 'Project Eagle'

Self proclaimed "Conservative" County Commissioner Curt Smith reneged on yet another campaign promise today when he voted to approve the North Brevard Economic Development Zone's gifting of $2.5 million in cash to an unknown company code-named "Project Eagle". The board voted 4-1 for the cash give away, with only Commssioner Infintini opposed.

Smith stated at multiple candidate forums in 2014 that if elected to the Commission he would not vote to give cash incentives to any company, known or unknown.

New 'conservative' Commissioner's first official vote of record raises eyebrows; helps elect Democrat Fisher to Chair

Curt Smith & Robin Fisher

Newly elected "conservative" County Commissioner Curt Smith's first official vote of record raised eyebrows amongst supporters last night when he voted with three other commissioners to elect Robin Fisher as Chair of the Brevard County Commission. Commissioner Infantini was the sole dissenting vote.

Fisher, the only sitting Democrat on the board, has a proven track record as a sexist bully, and has used the Chair position in the past to fire off insults  at and cut off comments from District 3 Commisisoner Trudie Infantini. One of the many Fisher classics was "maybe we should consult with a real CPA", casting aspersions on Infantini's licensure as a Certified Public Accountant.

Did incumbent John Tobia win re-election with a stamp?

Tim Street vs John Tobia

The week before the primary election I learned that incumbent state house rep John Tobia was sending out letters and including .70 worth of postage for the voter to return his or her absentee ballot. Tobia defeated challenger Tim Street with 5,195 votes to Street's 4,211. I filed the ethics complaint below.

Here is what Florida Statute says: 104.061 Corruptly influencing voting (Emphasis added is mine to show relevance)

(1) Whoever by bribery, menace, threat, or other corruption whatsoever, either directly or indirectly, attempts to influence, deceive, or deter any elector in voting or interferes with him or her in the free exercise of the elector’s right to vote at any election commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084 for the first conviction, and a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084, for any subsequent conviction.

New D5 School Board Candidate Dale Davis' Stunning 2013 Tweet Implies He Holds Blacks In Very Low Regard

Dale Davis Racist Tweet 130808

I was surprised to see Dale "3D" Davis had filed to run for the District 5 School Board seat. I know Mr. Davis through his involvement with the local Republican Party, and he is one of the most despicable and dishonest people I’ve ever met. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be surprised, as those seem to be common characteristics in those running for office these days. But I digress.

School Board Hosts Common Core Community Forum

The Brevard County School Board has decided not to post the Common Core Community Forum video on their web site, so I've obtained a copy and posted it online here. This is the much talked about forum at which School Board Member Amy Kneesey called 911 because she was concerned for her safety. You can view a transcript of the 911 call below.

Emotions Run High at February School Board Forum

Binggeli Presents at Forum

Taking a cue from the Obama administration, Brevard Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian T. Binggeli and the Brevard County School Board have been doing their best to scare local teachers, aids, and parents with their proposed cuts to the 2013-14 budget.

From the beginning of the meeting at 6:30pm, on February 21 in the Hoover Middle School Media Center, Dr. Binggeli showed many slides illustrating the steady decline in “revenues” to the District since 2009.  Of course, at no point did the good doctor point out the main cause of the drop in funding, plummeting property values.  The superintendent continued on with the scare tactics by PowerPoint.  While asking for community input, he proceeded to go down line by line on the proposed cuts.  Most of those in attendance were media specialists, music teachers, and concerned parents ready with objections to each cut.

Tea Party Starts 2013 With Focus, Renewed Enthusiasm

More than 130 people turned out Thursday night at the Melbourne Area Association of Realtors to attend an organizational meeting of the Brevard Tea Party. The meeting was focused on returning the Tea Party to its core message of fiscal responsibility and creating the organizational structure that will allow the group to be more effective at the county level. Organizer Matt Nye said he was thrilled with the turnout.

"Attendance was incredible, especially when you consider the fact it was the same night as the local Republican Party Executive Committee meeting," Nye said. "The best part was we had a ton of new faces - I know many pundits and commentators are trying to say the Tea Party is dead, but I can assure you based on the turnout and enthusiasm in that room that is simply not the case."
